
In accordance with the provisions of Article 166 of the Immigration Law Regulations in force, foreigners who hold temporary or permanent resident status are required to keep their information updated before the National Immigration Institute (hereinafter “INAMI”), and they must notify the institute of any relevant changes in their immigration status.
Changes that require notification to the INAMI include:
Change of Address or Employer: If a foreigner changes their place of residence or place of work, either within the same city or to another location in Mexico.
Change of Marital Status: If a foreigner changes their marital status, whether by marriage, divorce or other similar legal situation. The supporting documents to be submitted are:
a. Marriage certificate;
b. Divorce decree with effective date; or
c. Death certificate of the spouse.
Change of Nationality: In the event that a foreigner acquires Mexican nationality or changes their nationality for any reason, they shall submit the following documentation:
a. Passport of new nationality;
b. Certificate of nationality; or
c. Letter of naturalization.
Change of Name: In the event that a foreigner modifies the name registered before INAMI, for any reason, they must prove such change with the following documentation:
a. Passport or identity card and travel document with the new name; and
b. Document issued by the competent authority of the country of origin attesting the change of name.
